Fishing and Boating Participation Up

The Outdoor Foundation with its partner the Recreational Boating and Fishing Foundation are unveiling their new 2010 Special Report on Fishing and Boating. The report conducts the participation information based on age, gender, ethnicity, education, income and region. Insights from the report include 7.3 percent of all Americans over age 16 (approx. 20.5 million) own a boat, in 2009 fishing participants made 996 million outings, and there were 705 million boating days as well. Fishing is acknowledged as the “gateway” activity leading to other outdoor interests, with young fishers under 18 years old make up more than 23 percent of fishing participants and almost 10 million outdoor enthusiasts are considering boat ownership.
